The Truth of Yoga

The truth in yoga: the aesthetic of the pose is not the goal. Becoming flexible is not the goal; touching your feet to your toes and standing on your hands is not the goal. The goal is to create space where you were once stuck, to be comfortable and appreciative of your body. To become aware of the noise in your mind and learn to quiet it.

That is the goal of yoga. That's the truth in yoga. Yoga is for everyone.

Don't let the amazing yogis on Instagram (and there are so many of them, it's inspiring) intimidate you and your practice. Don't let your ego get in the way either. Your body will get there, but your mind and heart is just as important, if not much more so.

I follow many yogis over the last couple of years since I've signed up for instagram. Most of them super bendy and acrobatic. I've unfollowed a good number of them because it just didn't sit well with my ego. It made me push my body harder and kept referencing their images and how they looked in my mind. It hindered my practice. But I have kept a few of them in my feed.
